A-Level (General Certificate of Education Advanced Level), a British high school course, is a national curriculum system in the UK. It is an advanced level course for the British General Certificate of Secondary Education Examination and a university entrance examination course for British students. Most secondary schools in the UK offer a wide range of A-Level courses, including liberal arts, business, economics, language, mathematics, science, computing, law, media, music, etc.

A-Level course certificates are used as admission standards for almost all English-taught universities. Students with three A-Level passing test scores can directly apply for more than 11,000 universities in more than 150 countries and regions such as the UK, Australia, the United States, Canada, Singapore, Hong Kong, and New Zealand. The purpose of offering A-Level courses in China is to provide Chinese students with an effective way to enter foreign universities. The specific goals are: to train students with excellent grades in junior and senior high schools in China to enter the world's top universities; to train students with average grades in junior and senior high schools in China to enter world-class universities; and to train students with average grades in junior and senior high schools in China to enter universities suitable for them.

The A-level course lasts for two years. The first year is called AS level, and students usually choose 4-5 courses that they are good at and interested in; the second year is called A2 level, and students can choose 3-4 courses that are better at AS level to continue studying.

The A-Level course is suitable for middle school students aged between 15 and 18 who have graduated from junior high school or vocational high school students with equivalent academic qualifications. Usually, domestic A-level schools recruit students who have graduated from the second year of high school and require them to take relevant entrance examinations. Since the A-level course, including teaching and examination papers, is in English, this requires students to have a high level of English.

The A-Level examination will be organized globally by the examination committee in May-June and October-November each year, and the results will be announced in August and February of the following year respectively.
